Our History

MasterCare has a 45-year history in South Africa’s retail, manufacturing, service and repair industry.  This includes all repairs on major household appliances, desktops and laptops.  We have 7 branches, a national footprint of local agents, agents in Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland. This makes us the service provider for end-users who own a total of 100 000+ units.  The services we offer also include manufacturer’s warranty repairs, extended warranty repairs, out of warranty repairs, evaluation of imported products and assessing the parts required for the warranty period.

Company Timeline

Year - 1974

MasterCare was established at the inception of TV broadcasting and competed successfully in an intensely competitive environment.

Year - 1975

Early Bird Services was established in 1975 to provide maintenance and repair services to the new TV market. The Early Bird name and the “Roadrunner” logo became widely known and contributed to the company’s success. Branches were located in easily accessible retail precincts, and were supported by an agent network servicing the more remote areas.

Teljoy Holdings acquired MasterCare to predominantly manage the Teljoy rental fleet as an in-house service provider.

Year - 2000

Teljoy Holdings was procured by Vodacom, who became the sole owner in January 2000. A milestone development occurred the following year when a successful management buy-out was negotiated by MasterCare management, setting the company on a new path of development and growth. MasterCare expanded to encompass installation, services and repairs to major home appliances, and was repositioned to service the retail trade. The service includes the in and out of warranty period, adding value to the products in the Trade. MasterCare became a leader in the industry with incredible service and exceptional customer care, backed by a fully integrated information technology system.

Year - 2004

Over decades, MasterCare built a mutually beneficial business relationship with the JD Group. MasterCare took over all warranty repairs for the Group while maintaining a high level of service delivery.

After re-engineering our centrally located branches in all major cities, we linked them to our National Call Centre, who put our customers in contact with their closest branch, operators, trained technicians and agents.

MasterCare acquired Early Bird Services from Ellerines Holdings to combine forces, enhance the national footprint and merge commercial customers and consumers.

MasterCare rebrands and upgrades their products to augment their value-for-money offerings.
